I'm no professional, but I, personally, don't think there is such a thing. Anyone with the heart and drive to do it, can. Whether we all do it in the same fashion is neither here nor there. It simply is what it is... a running thing.
A thing I started in 2005 and have since held a love-hate relationship with. Oddly enough, in my longest down time from running, I decided to take on a half marathon. A year ago this past weekend, I did it. One of the hardest things I have ever done, yet one of the greatest feelings I have ever felt... a sense of accomplishment like no other.
After running the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini-Marathon in 2011, I ran a few 3-milers following, then just stopped. I didn't put my Aasics back on. I walked away from that lifestyle and went a separate path. A path that led me to utter laziness and weight gain.
Until the 2012 birthday of the KDF Mini.
My drive has returned! I'm motivated and ready to tackle the roadways again. I feel such a greater desire now than I ever have! It's crazy what this running thing can do to you.
My time on the roadways is spent rocking out to Pandora tunes (more specifically, "Eye of the Tiger" radio),
reflecting on the moments that have passed, and most importantly...
It's a stormy evening and the thunder and lightening have just subsided. I'm not afraid of a few raindrops. My friends (Aasics) are waiting by the front door...
